"Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them to increase, and invoke [Allah's blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing."

Sahih Muslim 987 • Narrated by Abu Hurairah
"There is no owner of gold or silver who does not pay the right due on it, except that on the Day of Resurrection, sheets of fire will be hammered out of it, then his sides, forehead and back will be branded with them." — Establishes Zakat on gold & silver is obligatory.

"There is nothing due from you [in Zakat] on gold until you possess 20 dinars (= 87.48g / 7.5 tola). When you have 20 dinars and one year has passed, half a dinar is due." — This is the prophetic source for the gold Nisab used in this calculator.

Zakat Calculator Pakistan 2025 — Complete Shariah-Compliant Guide

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam — an annual obligatory charity of 2.5% on all qualifying wealth held for a full lunar year (Haul). This calculator uses live PKR metal prices aligned with the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980.

⚙️ Step-by-Step Calculation

  1. 1
List all zakatable assets: Cash, bank savings, gold/silver at current Sarafa value, PSX stocks, business inventory, and annual rental income.
  2. 2
Deduct short-term liabilities: Any immediate debts payable within 12 months are subtracted from total assets.
  3. 3
Check Nisab threshold: Net wealth must equal or exceed the silver Nisab (612.36g / 52.5 tola) — recommended for mixed assets by Pakistani scholars.
  4. 4
Confirm Haul (one lunar year): Wealth must have been in your possession for approximately 354 days continuously.
  5. 5
Apply 2.5% rate: Multiply net zakatable wealth × 0.025. Distribute among the 8 Asnaf defined in Surah At-Tawbah 9:60.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is Zakat compulsory on salary income in Pakistan?
Zakat is not directly levied on monthly salary income. However, any saved salary amount that crosses Nisab and remains for a full Haul (lunar year) becomes subject to 2.5% Zakat. Banks automatically deduct Zakat from savings accounts on 1st Ramadan unless you submit a CZ-50 exemption form.
Does Zakat apply to property (real estate)?
Your personal home is exempt from Zakat. Rental income from investment property is zakatable. Property purchased with intent to sell (stock-in-trade) is subject to Zakat at market value. Agricultural land has separate Ushr (10% or 5%) rulings under the Zakat & Ushr Ordinance 1980.
How to stop automatic Zakat deduction from bank?
Submit a CZ-50 Exemption Declaration form to your bank before the 1st of Ramadan each year. This allows you to distribute Zakat personally to eligible recipients instead of through the government mechanism. The form is available at all bank branches across Pakistan.
Can I give Zakat to a family member?
You cannot give Zakat to your parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, or spouse as these are your direct dependants (usool and furoo). However, you may give Zakat to other relatives — brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins — if they are genuinely eligible (below Nisab). Giving to eligible relatives is actually considered more rewarding as it counts as both Zakat and maintaining kinship (Silah ar-Rahm).
